patriarchy
Just an article I wrote for the school paper about the concept of patriarchy. This issue is our gender-themed issue so I got kind of excited.

My sociology textbook defines patriarchy as “a place historically designed for the convenience of men, and structured according to rules that men find comfortable.” In keeping with this definition, many feminists will tell you that the...

valeasmundum replied to your post: now im looking at family tree stuff
Strangely enough, my grandma was just telling me last month about how a large portion of my family a couple generations back are all Canadians to the core, aka were from Canada since before it was officially founded. I’M PART CANADIAN. YESSSSS.
YES NICK! it’s like you’ve always dreamed. one of us…

now im looking at family tree stuff
somehow my dad traced some parts of my family back to like, 1600?
also lots of my dad’s side has lived in canada like, since the 1800s
maybe now people will stop giving me so much shit when i tell them that i’m CANADIAN when they ask what my “background” is
HOLY FUCKING SHIT
i googled my old url (fuckmepikachu) because my friend drew got sourced on buzzfeed and now he’s going to be internet famous, and i was incredibly jealous
i had to take tumblr and twitter out of the search, and then i started getting a few interesting things
NAMELY THIS GEM FROM FANFICTION.COM:
“And that night, I found out that Pikachu was more than just overly horny - He was also...

pungraveyard replied to your post: THEY ARE HAVING A SHOWING OF 15 DIFFERENT GHIBLI FILMS AT THIS THEATRE IN DOWNTOWN TORONTO
You may only go if you cosplay.
i’ll cosplay as the forest spirit, and because MY SPIRIT ANIMAL IS A DEER (proven by the fight-club-method), i won’t have to do anything at all.
… the forest spirit is pretty much a deer right

THEY ARE HAVING A SHOWING OF 15 DIFFERENT GHIBLI...
the tiff (toronto international film festival) bell lightbox is this “trendy” theatre downtown that shows foreign/interesting/indie movies and stuff
and they are having this event called “Spirited Away: The Films of Studio Ghibli” (I guess they used Spirited Away in the title of the retrospective since it’s the most popular) and they are showing 15 ghibli films on...

in other news: we got into talent show again!
my friend joanna and i have been in the school talent show the past couple of years, just doing acoustic+vocal duets of songs we like
last year we did a five-song medley. we have to do mashups because joanna and i have totally different tastes and we’re both stubborn little cunts. actually there are a couple of videos but tbh when i watch them i think we sound bad so i’m not going to...
I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO KING'S NEXT YEAR
i paid all my deposits today and filled out my residence application. which means i officially accepted their offer.
i will be living and studying in halifax for the next four years.
i’m doing arts in a program called the foundation year, which is probably best described as a interdisciplinary mix of history, philosophy and english. i’ll be studying the development of western thought...

i can't decide whether i should switch back to...
back in grade 5 i got glasses, and i had them for a long time, and then I think it was grade 9 that i got contacts
i think it was mostly for aesthetics but contacts also make more sense, because you can look to the side or up/down without turning your head
anyways my eyes are apparently really sensitive and contacts never really worked for me. i would wash my hands every time before putting them...
On Why Most Convicts Are Men (And It Probably Has...
permutationofninjas:
One interesting facet of the debate regarding men’s rights is incarceration rates. In the U.S, 93% of people behind bars are men, with only 7% being women. This could, of course, be seen as an example of the violent and base tendencies of men, but a more enlightened person would probably take the position that our society conditions men into a role which by nature is more...
